We removed all of the existing areas, then raised and levelled them up. We installed a new hardcore foundation with membrane sheeting and a full mortar bed to lay the patio on. For the slabbing, we used Indian sandstone slabs in a shade of 'fossil mint'. On the side, we created raised flower beds with pressure-treated railway sleepers. Finally, we grouted the patio with a 'buff' resin joint filler.
